100th Birthday Celebration
Local centenarian Doris de Carteret celebrated a very special day in style as she flew to Alderney to see in her 100th birthday. Doris was flown courtesy of Blue Islands with her son and grand-daughter to relive some fond memories. Doris was keen to return to Alderney for her birthday as she spent a lot of time their as a child but hadn’t visited the island for around forty years. Doris’ father was an Alderney local who used to work on the SS courier (the mail boat travelling from Guernsey). Every summer holiday Doris’ father would take her and her brothers up to Alderney and they would stay there for the whole summer. Doris remembers being split up from her brothers all over the Island but they would all meet up every day and loved the freedom Alderney gave them. Doris and her family enjoyed a complimentary lunch at the Braye Beach hotel complete with champagne and birthday cake. This was followed by a tour of the island so Doris could visit some of her old haunts and buy some Alderney butter!
Paul Sabin, managing director of Blue Islands wanted to make sure Doris’ birthday wish came true.
“Doris was a very special passenger who all of the Blue Islands staff fell in love with! She was a pleasure are we are very privileged to be part of her 100th birthday celebrations. It is possible that she is the oldest passenger we have ever flown on the Trislander! I am glad that she had such a lovely day.”
Lynn Williams, Doris’ grand-daughter organised the trip. “In the run up to her birthday, Nan kept mentioning that she would like to visit Alderney as she had so many fond memories of her time spent their as a child. I contacted Blue Islands and they helped to put the trip together. We had such a wonderful day.”

Alderney Salon Culinaire
The annual Alderney Salon Culinaire competition took place in May with the Braye Beach Kitchen Team taking 9 gold medals, 4 silver, 6 bronze and four merits in the 10 catagories. Pastry Chef Tino Passano won best exhibit in show. Senior Chef de Partie Ausama Mansey won most accomplished Chef and Head Chef Scott Chance took home 7 medals and a merit. Each member of the team won an award for their individual hard work - congratulations!
